Peter Lougheed offers many trails for skiing in their 1,200-acre park. One of our favourites is the 5 km loop that combines the Amos and Wheeler cross country ski trails.
It is easy to reach and suitable for all ages. There will be some short hills but these can be easily overcome. You should also bring water, high-calorie food, and other essentials with you on your adventure to keep you hydrated and warm.
Three Rivers Mountain Resort
Three Rivers Mountain Resort's 3,700-acre property is home to 11 miles worth of trails. Although they are slightly more challenging than Kananaskis', the scenery is spectacular. Although there are some steep spots and icy areas, this resort is great for both beginners and experts.

Blacktail Mountain
Blacktail Mountain has a number of cross-country trails that can take you from novice to expert. The terrain is varied from open meadow to woodland, with some trails lit for night skiing.
Tunnel Mountain
Tunnel Mountain is an ideal spot for beginners to learn cross country skiing. It's located in Banff National Park. There are 8 kms of trails available. It is also less than five minutes from Banff's main road so it's easy to get some rewards for your hard work!
Steege Hill Nature Preserve
The 793-acre Steege Hill Nature Preserve is an excellent choice for skiers who want a peaceful and serene wilderness experience. The seven-mile long loop trail system allows you to take in the views and savor them.
Aside from the trails, you'll also see plenty of wildlife - moose, bears and deer are frequent visitors. Take care of yourself and your surroundings when you travel. Wildlife safety is your responsibility.
Wedge Connector
The Wedge Connector in Kananaskis is a popular cross-country skiing trail for children. It is a great playground for children and offers amazing views of the mountains.

Skogan Pass
The trip up Skogan Pass is an iconic XC ski in Kananaskis. While it's a challenging climb, the view from up there of Kananaskis Ski Area and Nakiska Ski Area is well worth it.
Evan-Thomas Parks and Spray Valley Province Parks
Cross-country skiing trails Evan-Thomas or Spray Valley offer a wonderful combination of forest, meadow and mountain in Kananaskis. These trails can be used by intermediate skiers, but they also make a great choice for families with small children.
You'll also find the Frozen Toad Trail, Elkwood Loop snowshoe trails on the trail. If you're looking for something to do when you're out on the snow, there are plenty of other options.
